The Ankara 19 Mayıs Stadı (also Ankara 19 Mayıs Stadyumu , German Ankara Stadium of May 19 ) was a football stadium in the Turkish capital Ankara . The football clubs MKE Ankaragücü , Gençlerbirliği Ankara and Hacettepespor played their home games in this stadium. From 1936 to 1981 it was the home ground of Muhafızgücü Ankara . Construction began and the stadium opened in 1936. The stadium held 19,209 spectators. The demolition work began in August 2018 and will take three to four months.
