David Wratt

David Wratt (* 1949 ) is a New Zealand climatologist .

Life

Wratt grew up on a farm near Motueka , attended Motueka High School and then studied atmospheric science at the University of Canterbury in Christchurch . Wratt is married to quilt art artist Clare Smith and has two children.

In 1976 he joined the meteorological service of the Meteorological Service of New Zealand , where he was initially responsible for supporting the relocation of industrial companies with a view to minimizing air pollution . After working in various areas of the metrological service, he then took over the research management from 1988 to 1992.

In 1992 he moved to the National Institute of Water and Atmospheric Research (NIWA), where he headed the “SALPEX Mountain Meteorology and River Flow Research Program”. In the meantime, the area of ​​applied climate research, advice and impact assessment are among his tasks. He heads the New Zealand Climate Observation Network and the New Zealand Climate Committee of the Royal Society of New Zealand .

Because of his research, Wratt was appointed to the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change . In 2007, as Vice-Chair of Working Group I “The Physical Science Basis”, he was involved in the preparation of the fourth assessment report .
