European men's volleyball championship 1971
The 1971 European men's volleyball championship took place in Italy from September 23 to October 1 . With the Federal Republic and the GDR, Germany provided two of the 22 participants. The games took place in Ancona , Bergamo , Bologna , Imola , Milan , Modena and Turin . The Soviet Union defended its title.

First there was a preliminary round in which the teams were divided into six groups of four. However, since England and Albania decided not to participate, only two teams remained in Group A. The group winners played in the final group "everyone against everyone" for the title. The runners-up played for places seven to twelve, the table thirds for places 13 to 17 and the remaining teams for ranks 18 to 22.
