European Women's Volleyball Championship 1999

The 1999 European Women's Volleyball Championship took place in Italy from September 20th to 25th . The number of participants in the final round was reduced to eight teams. The games were played in Rome and Perugia . Russia won the title for the 16th time.

mode

The twelve participants were divided into two groups of four in the preliminary round. The group winners and runners-up reached the semi-finals. The third and fourth played for places five to eight.

Italy was set as the host.

Twelve teams played for seven more places in the finals. In two groups of six they competed against every opponent at home and away. The three best teams in each group and the best fourth in the group qualified. As Italy finished third in Group A, Germany moved up in fourth.
