European men's volleyball championship 1975

The 1975 European men's volleyball championship took place in Yugoslavia from October 18 to 25 . Germany was represented by the GDR team among the twelve participants. Qualification matches took place for the first time. The final round matches took place in Belgrade , Skopje , Subotica and Kraljevo . The Soviet Union became European champions for the third time in a row.

mode

First there was a preliminary round, in which the twelve teams were divided into three groups of four. The two best teams in each group played in the final group "everyone against everyone" for the title. The remaining teams played for positions seven to twelve. Results from teams that met in the preliminary round were carried over to the final round.

qualification

Yugoslavia was set as the host. The top seven teams at the 1971 European Championship were also automatically qualified. These were the Soviet Union as defending champions, the second Czechoslovakia , the third Romania , the fourth GDR , the fifth Hungary , the sixth Poland and the seventh Bulgaria .

Italy prevailed on May 24th with a 3-0 home game against Switzerland . The French defeated the Greeks 3-1 on April 3, also with a home advantage . The Netherlands prevailed against Finland and Spain in Uden . Belgium reached the finals without a fight.
