European men's volleyball championship 1995

The 1995 European men's volleyball championship took place in Greece from September 8th to 16th . The games were played in Athens and Patras . Italy defended the title.

mode

First there was a preliminary round, in which the twelve teams were divided into two groups of six. The two best teams in each group reached the semi-finals. The table third and fourth played for places five to eight.

qualification

Greece was set to host. The top seven teams in the 1993 European Championship were also automatically qualified. These were Italy as the defending champions, the second Netherlands , the third Russia , the fourth Germany , the fifth Bulgaria , the sixth Ukraine and the seventh Poland .

19 teams played in for four more places. The Slovakia and Hungary came into home and away against each other. Slovakia prevailed with two 3-0 wins in Marcali and Bratislava and reached the second qualifying round. There 17 teams formed three groups of four and one group of five, in which the teams competed against each other at home and away. The group winners qualified for the finals.
