Marcali (German Martzal , Croatian Marcalin ) is a Hungarian town in County Somogy with 11,571 inhabitants (2011). It is located 15 km from the southern shore of Lake Balaton ( Balatonmáriafürdő ).
history
Marcali was first mentioned in a document in 1274. However, the area was already settled in the Bronze Age. The city charter was Marcali in 1977, where at the same time the villages Bize, Boronka and Horváthkút were incorporated.
Until the opening of the local thermal baths on August 1st, 2003, Marcali was more of a small “transit town” on the E 661 without any tourist significance. In addition to the local spa, the area around Marcali is also gaining in importance for those interested in hunting and fishing.

In the district of Kisperjes there is a medium wave radio transmitter with a 126 meter high transmission mast, which is operated on the frequency 1188 kHz with 300 kW transmission power.
economy
One of the few producers of long eggs in Europe is located in the village . In 2016, Bovoprod stated that it produced 1.5 million packs of 235–250 g, including spiced ones.
