traffic

Main road no.68 runs through Mesztegnyő . Passenger traffic on the railway line from Somogyszob to Balatonszentgyörgy , which runs east of the village, was discontinued at the end of 2009, so that travelers have to use the train station in Balatonmáriafürdő , 22 kilometers to the north .

Forest railway

There is a forest railway in Mesztegnyő ( Mesztegnyői Állami Erdei Vasút ). The small train was built in 1925 to transport wood from the forests to the sawmill and the reloading station at the train station. Originally the line was six kilometers long and steam locomotives pulled the cars. After nationalization after the Second World War, it was used by forestry as a horse-drawn tram . In 1958 the tracks were renovated and reinforced and the line extended to Felsőkak. Diesel locomotives were used and passenger traffic began. In the late 1970s, due to the depopulation of the surrounding villages and declining timber production, most of the sidelines were abolished. The 8.4 kilometer main line between Mesztegnyő and Felsőkak has been preserved and is now also used for tourism.
