Marcali (Hungarian Marcali járás ) is a district in the northwest of the southwestern Somogy County . It borders Fonyód County in the west , Kaposvár County in the southeast , Nagyatád County in the south and Csurgó County in the south-west . It borders on Nagykanizsa County to the east and Keszthely County to the north (both from Zala County ). The border to the latter runs across Lake Balaton (Hungarian: Balaton ).

history

The district emerged almost unchanged from the Hungarian administrative reform at the beginning of 2013 as the successor to the small area of the same name (Hungarian Marcali kistérség ). Only the Somogyfajsz community was transferred to the Kaposvár district in the south.
