The district of Kaposvár (Hungarian Kaposvári járás ) is a district in the southeast of the southwest Hungarian Somogy County . It borders in the north on the Fonyód and Tab districts , in the northwest on the Marcali district , in the west on the Nagyatád district and in the south on the Barcs district . In the southeast forming circles Szigetvár and Hegyhát ( Baranya ) the border, to the east of the county Dombóvár from Tolna .

history

For the Hungarian administrative reform in early 2013, the district emerged with all 54 municipalities from its predecessor, the small area of the same name (Hungarian Kaposvári kistérség ). The new district was strengthened by all 23 municipalities of the western Kadarkút (Hungarian: Kadarkúti kistérség ), which was dissolved at the end of 2012, and the municipality of Somogyfajsz. The Kaposvár District was able to record an increase of 52.9% (territory) and 21.1% (population).

The Kaposvár District has an average municipality size of 1,460 inhabitants on an area of ​​20.40 square kilometers. Without the district town these values ​​decrease to 658 inhabitants. and 19.19 km², respectively. The population density of the largest and most populous district is above the county value. With a distance of almost 400 km², the district is the largest district in Hungary and has the largest number of municipalities in the district after the district of Zalaegerszeg (84). The district seat is located in the largest city, Kaposvár , in the center of the district. The city is also the seat of Somogy County and has county rights (Hungarian Megyei jogú város )
