The county Fonyód (Hungarian Fonyódi járás ) is a district in the north of the south-west Hungarian Somogy County . It is bordered by Marcali County to the west , Kaposvár County to the south, Tab County to the southeast, and Siófok County to the northeast . The northern border to Veszprém county runs over Lake Balaton (Hungarian Balaton ).
history
The district emerged from the Hungarian administrative reform at the beginning of 2013 with all 11 municipalities of its predecessor, the small area of the same name (Hungarian Fonyódi kistérség ). The new district was strengthened by all 10 municipalities of the southern Lengyeltóti area, which was dissolved at the end of 2012 (Hungarian Lengyeltóti kistérség ). The Fonyód district was able to record an increase of 73.1% (territory) and 46.5% (population).

Fonyód County has an average municipality size of 1,600 inhabitants on an area of 30.74 square kilometers. The population density is slightly above the county value. The seat of the district is located in the largest city, Fonyód , in the northwest of the district on Lake Balaton .
