Daniel Friedrich Hecht (born July 8, 1777 in Sosa , † March 30, 1833 in Freiberg ) was a German mathematician and surveyor .

Life

He was born in Sosa as the son of pastor Christian Heinrich Hecht . From 1792 to 1798 he attended the lyceum in Schneeberg , after which he studied law , philosophy, camera studies and mathematics at the University of Wittenberg . After the death of his father, who financed his studies, he returned to his homeland in 1801, worked as a miner and attended the Johanngeorgenstadt mountain school until 1803 . A scholarship granted to him on the recommendation of the Johanngeorgenstadt Mining Authority enabled him to study at the Freiberg Mining Academy in 1803 , which he graduated in 1807.

After his studies, Hecht worked as a shift supervisor and (from 1813) as a teacher at the Freiberg mountain school . In 1816 he was appointed second professor of mathematics at the Bergakademie (alongside Friedrich Gottlieb von Busse ). He gave lectures on elementary and applied mathematics and (from 1817) on theoretical marrow cutting art . After von Busses retired in 1826, Hecht became first professor. He gave the lectures on elementary mathematics and took over mining engineering. For health reasons, Hecht stopped his lectures in 1832. He died at the age of 55 in Freiberg.
