Herbert E. Kaden (* 1953 ) is a German lawyer , historian , archivist and author .

Life

After studying law , Kaden initially worked as a legal advisor . From 1989 he worked at the Freiberg mountain archive , where he was director from 1994 to 2000. After further studies in archival sciences at the Humboldt University in Berlin , he submitted his thesis as a specialist archivist between 1542 and 1548 on the subject of The Mining Administration of Albertine Saxony under Duke / Elector Moritz . During this time, Kaden was heavily involved in the construction of a new building for the mountain archive, which was housed in unsuitable and sometimes damp rooms in the building of the rebuilt Saxon Mining Authority. For this reason, part of the inventory was moved to a rented property in the former administration building of the Freiberg test track on Fuchsmühlenweg, where the numerous takeovers of dissolved GDR companies were also stored. After the competition for a new archive building on the campus of the TU Bergakademie Freiberg , the project was postponed due to austerity measures in the state budget and finally discarded. From 1998 onwards, Kaden directed work on the renovation of the historic storage rooms in the Kirchgasse 11 property in accordance with the archiving requirements, which was also associated with the first extract from the storage facilities in use since 1667.

After a brief appointment to the main state archive in Dresden , Kaden took over the management of the university archive of the Bergakademie Freiberg as the successor to Hans Hofmann in 2000 . On July 27, 2010 , he received his doctorate from the Faculty of Cultural and Social Sciences at the FernUniversität Hagen on the subject of the development of the Saxon mountain school system. An archival study of the origin and development of the Freiberg and Upper Ore Mountains mountain schools in the last third of the 18th century . The focus of his scientific work is on the Saxon mining administration in the 16th century, the mountain schools in Saxony and the Eastern Ore Mountains dialect .

He is a member of the Freiberg Antiquities Association .
