Responsibilities

The Freiberg mountain archive stores around 4500 linear meters of documents in Freiberg Castle , including around 65,000 maps, plans and cracks. The basis of the activity is the Archives Act of the Free State of Saxony . It is responsible for the archiving of documents of the authorities of the mining and metallurgical industry and their legal and functional predecessors as well as the mining companies until 1990 in the area of the Free State of Saxony.

history

A mountain archive has been documented since 1679. At first it was the archive of the Mining Authority . After the Second World War it was attached to various authorities. After 1967 it was subordinated to the Dresden State Archives as a branch. On January 1, 2005, the Freiberg mountain archive was combined with the state archives in Chemnitz , Dresden and Leipzig to form the Saxon State Archive . Until the move to the newly restored Freudenstein Castle in May 2008, the archive was housed in two separate locations on Fuchsmühlenweg and Kirchgasse.

The mountain archive is now Department 5 of the Saxon State Archives.

He was followed in 1971 by Peter Langhof and in 1987 by Guntram Martin, who took over the management of the Dresden State Archives in 1994 . He was followed by Herbert Kaden , in 2000 Raymond Plache (who then took over the management of the Chemnitz State Archives ), and since 2007 Peter Hoheisel.
