Matthew Williamson (born October 23, 1971 in Chorlton , Manchester ) is a British fashion designer .

life and career

Matthew Williamson was born in Chorlton, Manchester , where he grew up and went to school. At the age of 17 he was offered a place at the renowned Central St. Martins School , which he successfully completed in 1994 with a Bachelor in Fashion Design. He then worked for two years as a consultant for the London fashion company "Monsoon", including in India .

An initiative phone call to the British “Vogue” got him a meeting with the fashion assistant Plum Sykes . Stimulated by the positive reactions to his pieces, Williamson designed a small women's collection that was shown at a fashion show. His debut collection at London Fashion Week was called "Electric Angels". Jade Jagger , Helena Christensen and Kate Moss presented his creations. With this debut show he also made his breakthrough. In 2005 he became creative director at Pucci , which he remained until the end of 2008. In September 2007 he founded his own company The Matthew Williamson Fashion Company , and on September 19, 2007 the musician Prince shot a music video for the song Chelsea Rodgers from his album Planet Earth at London Fashion Week . The models presented the fashion by Williamson, who can also be seen on the catwalk at the end of the music video.

Williamson's mother, Maureen, is his office manager. Williamson designed a women's and men's collection including accessories for H&M, which was launched in May 2009.

His designs often have something Indian about them, which is probably due to his creative period at "Monsoon", for which he also worked in India. His creations include bright colors such as bright pink, neon green or eye-catching yellow. He creates a modern, feminine style. His motto is: "The shrillier, the better."
