London Fashion Week
The London Fashion Week is a fashion show in London, which takes place twice a year in February and September. It is reserved for invited guests and members of the fashion industry and is one of the Big Four of the worldwide fashion weeks, alongside New York Fashion Week , Milan Fashion Week and Paris Fashion Week .

The first organized fashion shows in London took place from 1975 under the name London Designers Collection at various locations within London. The British Designer Show was first organized in 1984 by the British Fashion Council (BFC), which was established in 1983 , and held in the Olympic Exhibition Hall. The London Designers Collection was incorporated into it. In 1984 the British Fashion Award was presented to the best designers of the year for the first time . In 1991 the fashion week was renamed the London International Fashion Show and in 1993 London Fashion Week . British fashion designers who are still known today are Vivienne Westwood , John Galliano , Jasper Conran , Rifat Ozbek and Katharine Hamnett . Designers like Alexander McQueen , Hussein Chalayan and Stella McCartney were added later. For example, the Briton Paul Smith has only been showing his women's collection in London since 1998, and he has always presented his men's fashion at Paris Fashion Week .
From 1999 the newly founded London Development Agency (LDA) co-organized the London Fashion Week. From 2009, the British had Technology Ministry (Department for Business, Innovation and Skills) involved. Since the LDA was dissolved in 2012, the Mayor of London has been a direct co-organizer. The fashion week presents itself to investors as a trade event with significant media coverage. Mercedes-Benz and the international hairdressing company Toni & Guy are represented as the largest sponsors . The American eyewear retailer Sunglass Hut has been the main sponsor since 2015. According to their own statements, the event is more than 5,000 press people and buyers and purchases worth an estimated 40 million visits pounds in 2007 and 100 million pounds in 2010 made. In 2012, London Collections: Women was launched as a forum for preliminary collections.
The current venue for numerous appointments as part of London Fashion Week has been Somerset House in central London since 2009 , where the main exhibition presents over 150 designers. The BFC also moved its headquarters here in 2009. A large pavilion will be set up in the courtyard for Fashion Week, which will host the catwalk shows by the top designers. In addition to the official ones, there are often unofficial dates around Fashion Week that are privately organized by members of the fashion industry and also often take place centrally in London.
Immediately after the fashion week there will be an event for retailers, the London Fashion Weekend . In contrast to the Fashion Week itself, the weekend is open to the public.
Just like in New York, but different from Paris and Milan, men's and women's fashion were presented at the same time during London Fashion Week in the past. In London, the last day of London Fashion Week had established itself over the years for men's fashion . Starting in summer 2012, a separate event was also organized over several days for men's collections, the London Collections: Men . These were renamed London Fashion Week Men's at the beginning of January 2017 .
Health checks of the models
In 2007 a publication was published under the title Model Health Inquiry (about information request on the health of models ). Based on the results, the BFC drew up an action plan for the next twelve months, which also included a health check for all models participating in London Fashion Week. The aim was to prove in the ongoing debate about the ideal of beauty “size zero” that the fashion industry does not support eating disorders and therefore does not allow models with eating disorders, for example, to appear. However, the program was immediately abolished in autumn 2008 because the health check was perceived as too much of an invasion of privacy.
In the midst of the discussion about too thin models, designer Mark Fast finally succeeded in 2010 in setting an example by having models with size 40 run on his show.
Live video streams
In the spring of 2010, London Fashion Week was the first of the major fashion weeks that offered all exhibiting designers the opportunity to stream their shows live online with their own show on the catwalk . The streams can be followed on the official website.
