Career

Stella McCartney began designing clothes at the age of twelve. Her first model was a pink faux suede bomber jacket. In 1988 her father organized an internship for her at Christian Lacroix in Paris . After completing an art course at Ravensbourne College of Design and Communications in North Greenwich in the early 1990s, she studied at Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design in London . During his senior year at college , McCartney interned with Edward Sexton, her father's Savile Row bespoke tailor. Her graduation collection, for which her father wrote the song Stella May Day as background music , was presented in 1995 by Kate Moss and Naomi Campbell . The London fashion boutique Tokyo bought the entire collection.

In 1997 McCartney became chief designer at the Parisian fashion house Chloé , a position in which Karl Lagerfeld had previously worked. McCartney brought Phoebe Philo , with whom she has had a close friendship since her apprenticeship at Central Saint Martins, as her assistant to Chloé. In 2000 McCartney designed the wedding dress for Madonna on the occasion of her wedding to Guy Ritchie .

McCartney left Chloé in 2001 to found her own fashion brand Stella McCartney with the Gucci group at the time , which is now part of the French luxury goods group Kering , in which she owns 50%. The first perfume, Stella , for women was launched in 2003. Since then, variations of the fragrance ( Sheer Stella , Stella Nude , Stella Rose etc.) and, in 2012, the women's fragrance LILY (as a homage to her deceased mother: Linda I love you ) have been released. A special feature of McCartney's collections is that she - as a committed environmental and animal rights activist and vegetarian - describes her fashion as " vegan ", even though wool or silk are sometimes used as materials. McCartney does not use leather or fur as a matter of principle . Her first men's fashion collection was announced for November 2016.

McCartney has been designing a sporty women's collection for Adidas under the name adidas by Stella McCartney since 2004 . At the end of 2005, H&M in Europe and North America, in cooperation with McCartney, offered selected and relaunched collection items from Stella McCartney's previous years at affordable prices. In 2008 the Stella McCartney portfolio was expanded to include a lingerie line. Between 2009 and 2011 McCartney designed children's collections for Gap Inc. In 2012, she added clothing for toddlers, girls and boys to her own branded range. Also in 2012, McCartney and Adidas equipped the British Olympic team with a 500-piece clothing collection. On March 26, 2013, McCartney was inducted into the Order of the British Empire by Queen Elizabeth II as an Officer (OBE) for her services to the British fashion industry . The Stella McCartney collections have been presented twice a year at the Paris Fashion Weeks since 2001. Stella McCartney has collaborated with companies such as the Paris department store Printemps , Target Australia , LeSportsac and Disney since the mid-2000s .
