Rashit

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Rashit is a punk rock band from Istanbul founded in 1993 by guitarist Tolga Özbey .

Musical career

The style is based on groups like the Sex Pistols , Ramones , The Clash , Minor Threat , Dead Kennedys , Gang of Four , The Stooges , mixed with ska , hardcore punk , and surf music melodies. Unmistakable make their music but it was the Balkans - Folk conditions influencing the fate. The group tries to spread its political message with their music: Their radical lyrics ensured that a punk scene could emerge in Turkey. The media, politics , racism and capitalism around the world and in Turkey are always an issue in her lyrics, but the humor and irony are not left out. All of this makes Rashit an "unusual" band, especially in Turkey.

The album Telaşa Mahal Yok ( Eng .: no reason to be upset), released in 1999 on the indie label Kod-Müzik , was the first of its kind in Turkey - it became a box-office hit and meant that several punk bands now had the opportunity had to record demos and also albums.

After the initial success, the band got pretty quiet. 3 members left Rashit after internal problems: Atilla Kırcellı - guitar, Tolga Koçak - bass and Gökhan Tunçişler - drums

Finally, at the end of 2000, Rashit was brought back to life. With a contract with Ada-Muzik , 2 new members and some temporary musicians, they managed to record the equally valued follow-up album Adam Olmak Istemiyorum (German: I don't want something to become of me) in the summer of 2002 .

From 1993 to the present day it has been possible to hold a concert in almost every major Turkish city, including with groups better known in Turkey such as Kranch , Vae Victis , Tampon , Kurban , Radical Noise , Pis Fabrika , Necrosis , 2/5 BZ and Zen. In 2003 and 2005 they also shone with appearances at the Rock'N'Coke Festival in Istanbul, where they shared the stage with MTV greats such as Korn , The Offspring , Guano Apes , Pet Shop Boys , Sugababes . Because of these appearances, the group was severely criticized by the Turkish punk scene, they were accused of selling out.

In 2006 the album Herşeyin Bir Bedeli Var (German: Everything has its price) was released. Above all, the turning away from punk rock and the adaptation to pop rock popular in Turkey was criticized on this record . The album is no longer distributed by an indie label, but by Sony / BMG
