catwalk
The catwalk is a walkway , a raised aisle or an elongated platform with different functions.
Fashion shows
As a catwalk (Engl. Also catwalk or runway ) is known in the fashion world a long stage podium without railing that the march past during a fashion show is and usually far into the rows of spectators. The catwalk enables the models to present their exhibited fashion to the audience from all sides.
Industrial plants
In industrial architecture , the catwalk or walkway is a kind of narrow bridge with a handrail, which is mostly used to reach high-lying machines (e.g. steam boilers) or control panels, for which it makes no sense to build a full floor . Catwalks often consist of running boards or gratings . The latter are permeable to liquids (e.g. rainwater , condensation or petrol ) and are slip-resistant even when wet.
Construction
In construction , a catwalk is used to describe special, mostly steel connecting bridges and bridges that are secured by railings and lead from one work platform to the next. They are used by craftsmen and construction workers to transport tools and / or materials.
When building suspension bridges , catwalk refers to the narrow, freely sagging and often more than a kilometer long walkways that are set up with ropes between the tips of the pylons and between the pylon tips and the anchor blocks on the ground. They are required as a work platform for the production of the suspension bridge's suspension cables. They are said to have got their name from the statement that only cats would voluntarily use such swaying footbridges that run high above the ground.
