Along with Paris , New York and London, Milan is one of the Big Four , the world's four most important venues for fashion shows by established top fashion brands. The Milan Fashion Weeks play the most important role in men's fashion, ahead of Paris, New York, London and Berlin. After Paris, the fashion world also looks to Milan in women's fashion before New York, London and Berlin.
Events
The Milano Moda Uomo for men’s fashion takes place in January and June of each year , and the Milano Moda Donna for women’s fashion at the end of February and September . The designs are presented about one year before the respective season : in January and February the models for the autumn / winter season of the following year are presented, in June and September for the spring / summer season of the following year. The fashion weeks are organized by the Italian fashion association Camera nazionale della moda italiana (CNMI), which has existed since 1958. Every year, the Paris fashion shows begin immediately after the Milan Fashion Weeks. Before the Milan Fashion Weeks for women, New York Fashion Week takes place in early February and early September each year , followed by London Fashion Week. In New York and London, the women's and men's collections are presented together twice a year within one week. The Pitti Immagine Uomo takes place in Florence right before the Milan Fashion Weeks for men .
history
In the post-war period, the Italian fashion industry first met in Florence in 1951 for a fashion show for an international audience. The Florentine fashion fair Pitti Immagine , which still exists today, developed from this . Although the CNMI was founded in Milan in 1958, the Milanovendemoda was only established in 1969, a major fashion fair in Milan. And it was not until the mid-1970s, when today's major Italian fashion brands such as Giorgio Armani , Versace , Gianfranco Ferré , Laura Biagiotti , Roberto Cavalli or Iceberg and Byblos were gradually launched and ready- to- wear fashion was on the rise, came into being in Milan the idea of establishing a centrally organized fashion week for designer brands. Top brands like Gucci and Fendi launched their clothing lines during this time. In 1978, the Modit women's fashion fair was launched, and in the same year the Centro Sfilate , which later became the Milano Collezioni as a framework for the top designer brands . In the 1980s, Italian fashion brands such as Alberta Ferretti (1980), Luciano Soprani (1982), Enrico Coveri (1982), Moschino (1983) and Dolce & Gabbana (1984) came onto the market. Trussardi (1983) and Prada (1988) started producing clothing. The Italian fashion industry became increasingly important worldwide.
Milanovendemoda and Modit got together in 1994 and formed La moda a Milano or Modamilano , which was eventually renamed Milano Collezioni . In 2003 Modit and Milanovendemoda ( MI Milano since 2009 ) separated again. The Milano Collezioni Donna (women's fashion) and Milano Collezioni Uomo (men's fashion) finally became the so-called Milano Moda Donna and Milano Moda Uomo fashion weeks organized by the CNMI .
