Etro is an Italian fashion brand in the upper price segment based in Milan , under whose names textiles , accessories , furniture , perfumes and glasses are offered.

The family company Etro was founded in 1968 by the then 28-year-old Gimmo Etro as a fabric weaving mill . Etro still produces around 60% of the fabrics it uses itself. From the early 1980s, home textiles were added to the portfolio, followed by leather goods such as handbags and accessories, as well as scarves and ties . In 1988 the company expanded into the Japanese market. The first Etro fashion collections for women and men, which have since been presented at the Milan Fashion Weeks, were presented in 1994. To date there is only one high-priced Etro main line for women and men. Etro glasses came onto the market for the first time in 1998. The first series of Etro fragrances followed in 1989, of which around 20 different types for women and men were available in stores in 2010.

The Etro brand is known for the use of bright colors and has been known for the paisley pattern as a recurring motif since 1981 . Etro la nuova tradizione calls the philosophy of further developing traditional products sometimes in an unconventional way . Etro employed around 750 people in 2010. The turnover in 2009 was around EUR 260 million. The company has been run by the brothers Ippolito (finance), Jacopo (fabrics, leather goods) and Kean Etro (men's collection) since the 1990s. Her sister Veronica studied at the Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design and has been responsible for the Etro women's collection since 2000.

Etro is represented at four locations in Germany: Berlin (since 2002), Munich (2003), Hamburg (2009) and Frankfurt am Main (2015). There are around 200 Etro boutiques worldwide .
