The Veszprém County [ vɛspreːm ] ( Veszprem , older even Weissenbrunn ) is a county (administrative district) in the west-central Hungary . It borders on Győr-Moson-Sopron , Komárom-Esztergom , Fejér , Somogy , Zala and Vas counties . At the beginning of 2016, 344,302 inhabitants lived on an area of ​​4,463.65 km², the county seat is the town of Veszprém . The population density of 79 inhabitants per km² is below the Hungarian average.

geography

Lake Balaton forms the southern border of this county . The chain of hills of the Bakony Forest runs through the country .

structure

With the government ordinance No. 218/2012 of August 13, 2012, the statistical small regions (Hungarian kistérség ) were abolished on January 1, 2013 and replaced by an approximately equal number of districts (Hungarian járás ). The small areas were retained for a while for planning and statistical purposes, but were finally abolished on February 25, 2014. There were ten small areas in the county before it was dissolved. Two administrative units remained unchanged in their borders through the reform.

The village of Balatonvilágos from the small area Balatonalmádi will move to Somogy County in early 2013 .
