history
Balatonfüred was first mentioned in a document in 1211. However, archaeological finds show that the place was already settled in Roman times. From the 17th century there are written references to the healing springs located there. The place experienced its heyday in the first half of the 19th century as an elegant meeting place for leading cultural workers and politicians. During the reform period (1825–1848), among others ( István Széchenyi , Ferenc Deák , Miklós Wesselényi ) and Lajos Kossuth met here . The actress Lujza Blaha (1850-1926) spent many years in Balatonfüred their summer and got here after her death a monument. The poet Sándor Kisfaludy founded the first Hungarian-language theater in Transdanubia here. Mór Jókai wrote his novel A Gold Man ( Az arany ember ) here. A famous spa guest of the 20th century was Rabindranath Tagore .

There are thermal healing springs in the village, which are particularly helpful in combating heart and circulatory diseases.
Two sources were described as early as the 17th century in a German-language book by Máté Lover as rising on the shore of Lake Balaton and bogging the ground. The pure and invigorating water caused farmers and shepherds to visit the springs.
The water was scientifically described by Mátyás Bél in the 18th century. The springs belonged to the Tihany Monastery . The sources were first recorded in 1743 under Abbot Ágoston Lécs.
Count Emanuel Zichy-Ferraris was also very committed to the development of bathing and cultural life at Lake Balaton . Above all, the development of bathing life in Balatonfüred was close to his heart. He became the head of the auxiliary committee that tried to build a theater in Balatonfüred. On July 7th, 1861 a new theater (called “Arena”) was inaugurated and put into operation. He also committed himself to the expansion and beautification of the place, which was very close to his heart.
