Height above sea level (Hungary)

Fixed point in Nadap

The height above sea level , in Hungarian Tengerszint feletti magasság , is currently specified in Hungary as the normal height above the Kronstadt level ( height above sea level ).

The first measurements for the whole of Hungary were carried out by the Austrian Military Geographic Institute in the years 1873–1913 with a level in Trieste , as was common in Austria-Hungary (see meters above the Adriatic Sea ). After a new measurement, differences of 9 cm occurred. Therefore a fixed point was set in Nadap (German: Kaltenberg ) in Fejér County in Hungary , which has a height of 173.8385 m.

In the course of time, a total of seven further height control points were established, with only Nadap located on the territory of today's Hungary, so that this was also used for the land surveys in 1921 and 1949.

After the Second World War , Hungary, like the other former Eastern Bloc countries, took over the Baltic base level, the Kronstadt level, which, in contrast to Trieste, is 0.6747 m higher. The Nadap base height is therefore 173.1638 m above sea level today.
