Anna Ball
The Anna Ball is a traditional ball event in Balatonfüred in Hungary every year in July. The ball, which was held for the 185th time in 2010, is an important factor in summer tourism on Lake Balaton.

The ball first took place on July 26th, 1825 in honor of Anna-Krisztina, the daughter of the Szentgyörgyi-Horváth house. In addition to the center of the settlement, the house, built in 1798, also formed a kind of artist's workshop, where guests such as Lajos Kossuth , István Széchenyi or Miklós Wesselényi were often guests. At this ball Anna-Krisztina also met her future husband Ernő Kiss , who later was one of the thirteen martyrs of Arad as Lieutenant General of the War of Freedom .
Since then, the ball has been held on the Saturday next to July 26th, which is Saint Anne's name day . The ball developed into one of the most elegant balls in Hungary . The members of the aristocracy, politicians and artists such as the writer Mór Jókai , the actress Lujza Blaha and the poet Mihály Vörösmarty soon gathered .
After the First World War , the ball lost its importance, but continued to take place in the interwar period. After the Second World War , the ball took place in the Balaton Restaurant for the first time in 1954, despite the communist rulers. In 1957 the event moved to the theater of the Kurhaus and later to the SZOT Sanatorium, today's Anna Grand Hotel .
Since the 1950s it has become common practice that the prom queen gets an apple from Eris and the two ladies-in-waiting a vase from Herend .
In 1962 the waltz of the Anna Ball , the last work by the Hungarian composer Jenő Huszka , was performed for the first time. Since the 150th Ball in 1975 the Hungarian regions have traditionally presented themselves. It was Kalocsa in 1976 , Hódmezővásárhely in 1977 and Karcag in 1980 .
Since 2003, a porcelain figure by Ernő Kiss has been awarded to people who have rendered outstanding services to Balatonfüred.
