Nagyvázsony (German Großwaschon ) is a municipality in Veszprém (Wesprim) county in Hungary . In 2015 it had 1,751 inhabitants.
geography
Nagyvázsony is located in Central Transdanubia and in Veszprém County, about 25 km northwest of Lake Balaton . The next larger city is Veszprém , around 20 km northeast of Nagyvázsony. The village is around 130 km away from the capital Budapest . Nagyvázsony is located on the Eger brook and only a few kilometers from the Balaton-Felvidéki National Park .
Sights and facilities
In the north-west of the village is the Kiniszi castle, which was donated for the general of the Kingdom of Hungary Pal Kiniszi by the king of Hungary and Croatia , Matthias Corvinus , in the 14th century. Today Kiniszi's sarcophagus is still in the attached chapel. There are also three churches in the village: the Catholic Church of St. Stephen (originally Gothic, now Baroque), the Reformed and Evangelical Church, an ethnographic museum and the ruins of a Pauline monastery from the 14th century.
The village also has a postal museum, two schools and the joint self-government of several municipalities in the Veszprém district .
