Tapolca [ ˈtɒpoltsɒ ] ( German Toppoltz ) is a small Hungarian town with almost 16,000 inhabitants (as of 2011) north of Lake Balaton. Tapolca has belonged to Hungary since the 10th century. After the Second World War , the city developed into an industrial center for the region. Various natural resources were and are being mined in the area.

Motorsport
With the Nyirádi Motorsport Centrum there is a race track in a former bauxite mine in Nyirád, not far from Tapolca , on which between 2006 and 2013 a. a. one round of the annual FIA Rallycross - European Championship was held.
