Konstantin Scherbakov ( Russian Константин Александрович Щербаков ; actually Konstantin Alexandrovich Scherbakov ; born June 11, 1963 in Barnaul , Siberia ) is a Russian pianist .

life and work

Scherbakov studied shortly after his debut with orchestra at the age of 11 with Lev Naumov at the Moscow Conservatory , later he became his assistant. In 1983 he won the first Rachmaninov competition in Moscow and in 1991 he was a prizewinner of the Concours Géza Anda in Zurich ; He gained international fame as early as 1990 when he performed the entire solo piano work of Sergei Rachmaninoff at the Chamber Music Festival in Asolo , with an impressed Svyatoslav Richter in the audience.

Since then, Scherbakov has given concerts worldwide and recorded over 40 CDs, most of them for Marco Polo / Naxos . His repertoire is broad (50 piano concertos and 50 solo evenings!), But mainly focuses on virtuoso and the most difficult works, such as Johann Strauss ' Tritsch-Tratsch-Polka arranged by György Cziffra . He is also a member of the jury for the Busoni competition . In October 2010, his student Julianna Avdejewa won the 16th International Chopin Competition in Warsaw. In 2019 his recording of the 12 Études d'exécution transcendante by Liszt and Sergei Lyapunow was released on the Steinway & Sons label .
