Lev Nikolajewitsch Naumow ( Russian Лев Николаевич Наумов , scientific transliteration Lev Nikolaevič Naumov ; born February 12, 1925 in Rostow ; † August 21, 2005 in Moscow ) was a Russian pianist and composer .

Life

Until 1950, Naumow studied piano with Heinrich Neuhaus at the Moscow Conservatory and composition with Vissarion Schebalin and Anatoli Alexandrow . Naumow immediately began teaching at the Conservatory because, for artistic and nervous reasons, he did not see his ideal work in the concert hall. From 1955 he became one of Heinrich Neuhaus 'three assistants (alongside Neuhaus' son Stanislaw and Evgeni Malinin), and in 1967 he received his own piano class. In 1976 he became a professor, and in 1980 after Stanislaw Neuhaus' death he also took over his pupil. In his old age he summarized his memories of Neuhaus in the book "Unter dem Schild von Neuhaus". Until his death, he taught at the Moscow Conservatory for 50 years. Naumow produced numerous well-known artists, 70 of whom won first prizes in international competitions. Examples include Alexei Lyubimow , Andrei Hoteev , Vassily Lobanov , Sergei Tarasov , Alexander Toradze , Anna Malikova , Andrej Gavrilow , Konstantin Scherbakov , Alexei Sultanow and Alexander Kobrin .

Naumow's compositions are little known; Among other things, he wrote a symphony, a cantata, a string quartet, a piano sonata and various song cycles.
