Andrej Hoteev ( Russian Андрей Хотеев / Andrei Chotejew ; born December 2, 1946 in Leningrad ) is a Russian pianist living in Germany .
Life
Andrej Hoteev studied at the St. Petersburg Conservatory with Nathan Perelman and at the Moscow Conservatory with Lev Naumov . In 1983 he made his debut in the Small Hall of the Moscow Conservatory. Further appearances in Russia followed. The artistic encounter with Svjatoslav Richter in St. Petersburg in June 1985 gave the decisive impulse for the pianistic style of Andrei Hoteev. After increasing obstruction of his concertante and musicological activities by government agencies, it was not possible for him to give concerts in the Netherlands and Germany until 1990 on the recommendation of Valery Gergiev , after being temporarily banned from performing.
In 1993 Hoteev undertook his first European tour through Russia, Great Britain, Germany, Belgium and Spain and made his first CD recording in France. St. Petersburg television broadcast a concert with Hoteev and the St. Petersburg Symphony Orchestra from the Great Hall of the St. Petersburg Philharmonic in October 1993 . The program included a new version of the 3rd Piano Concerto by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky with explanations by Hoteev, who had rediscovered the original three-movement version of the work based on the composer's handwriting. In the same year he moved to Hamburg with his family .
In 1995 Hoteev made a guest appearance in France. He has performed in the Paris Salle Pleyel and at the Montpellier Festival of Radio France, played with the Orchester National du Capitole de Toulouse , the Orchester National de Montpellier and the Paris Concerts Lamaureux Symphony Orchestra.
Hoteev works regularly with conductors such as Thomas Sanderling , Wladimir Fedosejew , Andrey Boreyko , Eri Klas , Avi Ostrovski, Woldemar Nelsson , Pawel Kogan , Rawil Martynow, Wladislav Tschernuschenko and Vladimir Altschuller. He also appears as accompanist for Sergei Aleksashkin and Robert Holl . He has been working with the soprano Anja Silja since 2006 and realized several projects with her.
Hoteev's world premiere of the cycle of three piano concertos and the “Fantaisie de Concert” for piano and orchestra by Tchaikovsky, which he presented in its original version in Moscow in November 1996 and in this version in 1998 - supplemented by the “Hungarian Gypsy Tunes” by Franz Liszt, became famous / Sophie Menter in Tchaikovsky's orchestration and the “Allegro in C minor” - recorded on a CD.
In 2006 he realized his own project with colored light, image and music in the Great Hall of the Laeiszhalle Hamburg. As a soloist with the Hamburg Symphony Orchestra under Andrey Boreyko , he will present the reconstructed colored light score of Alexander Scriabin's Prométhée. Le Poème du feu as well as the colored light and picture score by Wassily Kandinsky for Modest Mussorgski's “ Pictures at an Exhibition ”.
In 2012 Hoteev used the original score of Alfred Schnittke's Concerto for Piano and String Orchestra at the Usedom Music Festival together with the Novosibirsk Philharmonic Orchestra under Thomas Sanderling .
In 2014 Hoteev released a new CD recording of Mussorgsky's Pictures at an Exhibition based on the original manuscripts from the Russian National Library in St. Petersburg, which, according to his research, contains numerous significant deviations from all sheet music editions. In the CD booklet, the most important deviations are clearly documented using illustrations from the manuscripts. The magazine Fono Forum describes the impression of the expressive power, the dynamism, the richness of colors and the intensity of the original. This album “Pure Mussorgsky” from the Berlin classics label was nominated for the German Record Critics' Prize.
In January 2015 Andrei Hoteev was awarded the "Diapason 5" (France) for outstanding CD recording.
In the summer of 2016, Hoteev recorded his new Richard Wagner album “Declarations of Love: Complete piano works and piano songs for Mathilde and Cosima ” in Bayreuth . In addition to “Wesendonck Sonata” in A flat major for piano WWV 85 and some piano miniatures, the world premiere recording of “Four White Songs” (1868) and the first version of the Wesendonck songs ( Hänssler Classic HC16058 2017) are published together with soprano Maria Bulgakova .
Hoteev is married to the Russian pianist Olga Hoteeva. With her he published a CD in 2012 with 22 unknown original transcriptions by Sergei Rachmaninoff for piano four hands based on Tchaikovsky's ballet Sleeping Beauty, which he rediscovered during his Tchaikovsky studies .
