Andrei Wiktorowitsch Boreiko ( Russian Андрей Викторович Борейко ; English translit. Andrey Boreyko ; born July 22, 1957 in Leningrad ) is a Russian conductor of Polish-Russian descent.

Life

Boreiko studied conducting at the Conservatory in Leningrad with Jelisaveta Kudrjawzewa and Alexander Dmitrijew , and composition with V. Uspensky. He achieved international recognition after participating in international competitions such as the Grzegorz Fitelberg Conducting Competition in Katowice and the Conducting Competition in Amsterdam named after Kirill Kondraschin .

From 1987 to 1992 he was conductor in Ulyanovsk and chief conductor in Yekaterinburg , 1992 to 1995 general music director in Poznan (Poland). In 1998 Boreiko became Chief Conductor / General Music Director of the Jena Philharmonic and Principal Guest Conductor of the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra ; he kept the engagement until 2003. From 1998 to 2001 he was Principal Associate Conductor of the Russian National Orchestra .

From the 2001/2002 season to 2005/2006 he was Music Director of the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra and, since the 2004/2005 season, also Chief Conductor of the Hamburg Symphony Orchestra and first guest conductor of the Stuttgart Radio Symphony Orchestra of the SWR .

Andrei Boreiko is honorary conductor of the Jena Philharmonic . Together with them, he was honored three times in a row for the best concert program of the year by the German Association of Music Publishers in 1999–2003. From the 2005/2006 season to the 2009/2010 season he was chief conductor of the Bern Symphony Orchestra .

From 2009 to 2014 he was General Music Director of the Düsseldorfer Symphoniker . Since 2012 he has been chief conductor of the Orchester national de Belgique .
