Staigacker is a settlement in the Strümpfelbach district of Backnang in the Rems-Murr district .

Geographical location

Staigacker is located on a knoll on the eastern edge of the district to the municipality of Oppenweiler above the Murrtal and the community hamlet of Aichelbach on the other bank of the Murr. To the northeast lies Oppenweiler itself on this side of the river. In the northwest, in its own part of the city, beyond a notch in the terrain through which the B 14 passes, is the Katharinenhof Palace . Immediately to the south-west is the Fuchshau forest , in which there is a forest cemetery, behind it, in the direction of the city center of Backnang, comes the village of Strümpfelbach itself , which gives the district its name. In the south-east is the Oppenweiler district of Zell on both sides of the river.

history

Until 1902, Staigacker was a rural estate with an inn ( Rose ) on the Salzstrasse between Schwäbisch Hall and Stuttgart. After the Murrbahn was built in the 19th century, the inn lost its importance and an important source of income for the farmers was lost.

The Houses of Mercy Foundation, founded by Queen Olga von Württemberg in 1864 , then acquired the property in 1902 after the Wilhelmsheim lung sanatorium had opened on the opposite mountain in 1900 . As early as July 18, 1904, the newly built main building of today's Staigacker nursing home was ready to move into. Today Staigacker is the seat of the Backnang and Wildberg Retirement Homes Foundation.
