Alexander Evgenjewitsch Kobrin ( Russian Александр Евгеньевич Кобрин ; born March 20, 1980 in Moscow ) is a Russian pianist and university professor .

Life

Kobrin began studying music at the Gnessin Institute in Moscow at the age of five . There his teacher was the pianist Tatiana Zelikman . At the age of 18 he enrolled at the Moscow Conservatory and became a student of Lev Nikolayevich Naumov . Kobrin graduated from the Moscow Conservatory.

As a teenager, Kobrin won various competitions, as an 18-year-old the Scottish International Piano Competition . In 1999 he received first prize at the Ferruccio Busoni International Piano Competition after a number of years without a first prize. In 2000 he took third place at the International Chopin Competition in Warsaw , after the winner Li Yundi . At the Hamamatsu International Piano Competition in the same year, he took second place, a first place was not awarded. In 2005 he was the gold medal winner at the Van Cliburn International Piano Competition .

Kobrin was a teacher at the Gnessin Institute in Moscow until 2009, and has been teaching at the Schwob School of Music at Columbus State University in Columbus (Georgia) since 2011 .

Musical work

Kobrin has given concerts in Europe, America and Asia, including with the Orchester de la Suisse Romande , the English Chamber Orchestra and in 2011 with the Polish Beethoven Academy Orchestra under Michał Klauza . He is very interested in the music of the classical and romantic periods.
