Gyöngyi Szalay-Horváth (born March 24, 1968 in Tapolca , † December 30, 2017 in Veszprém ) was a Hungarian sword fencer and six-time world champion.

Gyöngyi Szalay-Horváth was team world champion in Denver in 1989 . In 1990 at the World Championships in Lyon they lost to the team of the Federal Republic of Germany and received silver. At the European Championships in Vienna in 1991 she won bronze in singles, beaten only by her teammates Mariann Horváth and Zsuzsanna Szőcs , with whom she won gold. They also won the 1991 World Championships in Budapest and 1993 in Essen . In 1994 in Athens they only lost to the Spanish team and received silver. At the 1995 World Cup in The Hague , she won again with the team and also took silver in the individual behind Joanna Jakimiuk from Poland .

In 1996 Szalay-Horváth took part in the Olympic Games in Atlanta and won bronze in the individual, with the team it was fourth place. At the World Championships in Cape Town in 1997 and in La Chaux-de-Fonds in 1998 , she won with the team and bronze in the individual. She also won the 1999 World Cup in Seoul with the team. At the Olympic Games in Sydney in 2000 , the team again reached fourth place.
