European men's volleyball championship 2019

The 2019 European Men's Volleyball Championship took place from September 12 to 29, 2019. It was held for the first time in four countries; The hosts were Belgium , France , the Netherlands and Slovenia . The number of participants was increased to 24 teams. Serbia prevailed against Slovenia in the final . The reigning world champion Poland reached third place. Defending champion Russia and the German team were eliminated in the quarter-finals.

The tournament began with a preliminary round in four groups of six teams each. The internationally customary scoring applied: If the score was 3: 0 or 3: 1, the winner received three points, the loser received nothing. If the match was 3-2, there were two points for the winner and one for the loser. The four best teams in each group reached the round of 16, in which they played crosswise (A1 against C4, B1 against D4, etc.). Then it went on in simple knockout mode. The winners of the semi-finals played the final, the losers played for third place.

Venues

The European championship was held in nine sports facilities. The venues for the preliminary round matches were Amsterdam , Antwerp , Brussels , Ljubljana , Montpellier and Rotterdam . The games of the last sixteen and quarter finals took place in Antwerp, Apeldoorn , Ljubljana and Nantes . One semi-final was held in Ljubljana, the other semi-final and the final in Paris .
