The Omnisport Apeldoorn is a multi-purpose hall with a cycling track in the Dutch city ​​of Apeldoorn .

history

The Omnisport Apeldoorn was opened in 2008 and consists of two halls. In the hall with the 250-meter cycling track there is also an athletics facility for indoor competitions with a 200-meter long running track. There is space for 5000 spectators. The smaller hall for 2000 spectators is primarily intended for volleyball . There is also an ice rink next to the halls . The Omnisport is home to one of three indoor cycling tracks in the Netherlands, in addition to the Velodrome Amsterdam and the Sportpaleis Alkmaar .

In October 2015, the Omnisport cycling track had to be closed for the second time within a year because the track's wooden surface splintered and the racers could have been injured if they fell. The Dutch national railway team, which was successful at the UEC European Railway Championships in 2015, had to move to another training facility in preparation for the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro . Refurbishment lasted until autumn 2016 and cost around 900,000 euros.

Events

In 2011, both the World Railroad Championships and the European Rail Championships were held in omnisport. In spring 2012, the German national team prepared for the following World Track Championships in Melbourne here . In 2013 the European Rail Championships took place here again and in March 2015 the UCI Paracycling World Rail Championships . In 2018 the Omnisport World Track Championships were held here and the European Track Championships in 2019 . In 2015 and 2019 , the Omnisport hosted paracycling world championships. Also in 2019 the hall will be a venue for the men's European volleyball championship .

In 2016, the Giro d'Italia started in the completely sold out Omnisport . From here, in the presence of King Willem-Alexander , the riders started the first stage, an individual time trial .

Seats of associations and clubs

The Omnisport is the location and home of numerous clubs and associations, including the Dutch national track cycling team, the local cycling club De Adelaar and the Stichting Apeldoorn Atletiekstad .
