With four medals the most successful athlete of the European Championship: the Dutchwoman Elis Ligtlee

The 6th UEC train European Championships the elite ( UEC Track Elite European Championships ) found from 14 to 18 October 2015 at the Velodrome Suisse in Switzerland Grenchen instead.

The European Championships are one of the ten competitions on the way to qualifying for the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro . The races take place in 21 disciplines; For the first time, an elimination run was held at an EM .

“I am very happy that Swiss Cycling has been awarded the contract to host the European Track Championships. In addition to strengthening the rail discipline in Switzerland, we wanted to host the European Championships in Grenchen so that our drivers would have similar conditions to those at the Olympic Games. The EM will be part of an optimal preparation for the games in Rio ”, said Thomas Peter, head of competitive sports at Swiss Cycling .

The most successful team at the European Championships was that from Great Britain with six gold medals, five of which were won by two female athletes: Katie Archibald and Laura Trott each won three golds (one of them together in the team pursuit ). The sixth gold medal of the British went to the track four of Jonathan Dibben , Owain Doull , Andrew Tennant and Bradley Wiggins . With this win, Wiggins celebrated his successful return to the track.

Most of the medals went to the Dutchwoman Elis Ligtlee , who was able to secure two gold, one silver and one bronze in all short-term disciplines. Russian Anastassija Woinowa won gold twice and set a new world record in the 500-meter time trial with 32.794 seconds . With three gold medals in short-term events, the Dutchman Jeffrey Hoogland was the best male driver. The most successful driver in the endurance disciplines was the Spaniard Sebastián Mora with two gold medals.

In front of a sold out house, the local racing drivers were especially celebrated for their medals: Stefan Küng became European champion in the single pursuit , together with the four ( Silvan Dillier , Frank Pasche , Théry Schir ) he also won silver in the team pursuit . Tristan Marguet won silver in the scratch and Claudio Imhof bronze in the points race .
