Anita Yvonne Stenberg (born August 28, 1992 in Drammen ) is a Norwegian cyclist. She is the only female athlete in her country in the 2010s who is internationally successful on the track .
Athletic career
Anita Stenberg started cycling on the street. As a junior she took part in the national track championships and discovered her passion for track cycling. However, there has been no indoor cycling track in Norway since 1946 , which is why the training opportunities in Stenberg's home country are severely limited. The athletes have to go abroad to train, as well as the championships. In recent years, the championships have been held in halls in Denmark or Poland . Stenberg therefore moved to the vicinity of Copenhagen at the age of 20 , where she trains and is also doing an apprenticeship.
Anita Stenberg has been active in the women's cycling elite since the beginning of the 2010s; in 2013 she took third place in a UCI track race in Vienna . By 2016, the all-rounder had won at least 16 Norwegian championship titles on the track, both in the short-term and in the endurance disciplines. In early 2017 she became a three-time Nordic champion.
Stenberg is currently (2017) the only Norwegian track cyclist who has established herself internationally. In the 2015 UEC European Track Championships in Switzerland Grenchen she finished in scratch tenth. The following year she was eighth in the scratch and fifth in the omnium at the European Championships .
In 2017 Anita Stenberg won eight Norwegian championship titles, with only one other athlete, Tone Hatteland , at the start in all disciplines . The championships were the Thorvald Ellegaard Arena in Danish Odense discharged. At the 2017 European Championships in Berlin, she was fourth in the points race and seventh in the Omnium. She finished the 2017/18 Track Cycling World Cup as the leader in the points race. In the following season she finished the World Cup in ninth place in points race and Omnium.
In the 2019/20 World Cup season , Anita Stenberg finished fourth in the scratch, fifth in the points race and third in the Omnium. At the UCI Rail World Championships 2020 in Berlin , she won bronze in the points race.
