Eimear Moran (born February 21, 1984 in Tullamore ) is a former Irish cyclist and rower .

Athletic career

Eimear Moran began her sporting career as a rower. As a 16-year-old she was two-time Irish junior champion. In 2001 she competed in the Junior World Championships in Duisburg and was ranked 12 in the one of the women. She also took part several times in the Henley Royal Regatta , where she won in various boat classes. In 2002 Moran started again at the World Junior Championships in the single, but did not reach the B final in contrast to the previous year and finished 14th overall. In 2004 she took part in the University World Rowing Championships in France.

Moran then took a break from competition until she made her comeback in 2010 at the age of 26 and won a foursome in Henley . In the following years she was a member of the Irish national rowing team. In the 2014 season she was used for the first time in the national team of the open age group at the European Rowing Championships in Belgrade. Together with Monika Dukarska , she finished 10th and last in the double scull . A little later, the duo also took last place in a regatta of the Rowing World Cup . In total, Moran won eight national rowing titles.

In 2014 Eimear Moran was looking for a new sporting challenge. When a place became available in a training camp for the Irish national cycling team in Alkmaar in November 2014, she was invited to go and she discovered her joy in track cycling . The following year she won six titles at the Irish Track Championships in Dublin : in the keirin , in the team sprint , in the sprint , in the single pursuit , in the scratch and in the 500 meter time trial . At the UEC European Rail Championships in 2015 , she was part of the Irish foursome with Josie Knight , Lydia Boylan and Melanie Spath , who finished sixth in the team pursuit .
