regulate

The team sprint is a team sprint. There are three drivers acting as a team, with the leading driver being eliminated after one lap. As with the pursuit race, the start takes place on the straight opposite of the track, with maximum speed being driven from the start. The first two drivers are the third as Anfahrer , the last man may his strength for the final round in the slipstream save. Until June 2020, this competition was held for women with only two athletes, since then, with the exception of the Olympic Games postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic , three athletes have competed for men.

In a qualifying round, eight teams are selected for the first round, with the fastest team racing against the eighth-fastest, the second against the seventh, the third against the sixth and the fourth against the fifth team. The two fastest winning teams of the first round contest the final for first place; the other race winners the final for third place. Before a rule change in October 2016, the competition was held in two rounds.
