Stephanie "Steph" Morton (born November 28, 1990 in Adelaide ) is an Australian track cyclist who specializes in short-term disciplines.
Athletic career
In 2007, Stephanie Morton was a junior on the podium at the Australian track championships for the first time when she finished third in the 500-meter time trial . From 2010 she started in the women's elite and was the Australian runner-up in the team sprint in the first year , together with Annette Edmondson . In 2011 she became a three-time runner-up in time trial, keirin and team sprint (with Anna Meares ).
In 2012 Morton achieved her first major international success and won the Keirin competition at the Oceanic Cycling Championships; by 2015 she was able to win five more oceanic titles. At the 2012 Summer Paralympics in London , she won the gold medal in the 1000-meter time trial while piloting the visually impaired Felicity Johnson on a tandem .
In 2016 Stephanie Morton was nominated for participation in the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro . In the Keirin competition, she was eliminated in the first round. The following year she became the Australian sprint champion for the second time . At the 2017 UCI Track World Championships in Hong Kong , she won silver in the sprint and team sprint (with Kaarle McCulloch ).
Honors
In 2012 Stephanie Morton was named Cycling Australia Elite Female Paracyclist of the year . In January 2014 she was awarded the Order of Australia Medal for her commitment to Paralympic cycling .
