Kaarle McCulloch (born January 20, 1988 in Campbelltown ) is an Australian track cyclist . She is four times world champion and eight times Oceania champion (as of 2019).
Athletic career
Kaarle McCulloch was a sports enthusiast from childhood; initially she was active in athletics . When she was 14, her family moved to Sydney because there were better sports for her and her siblings there. Kaarle McCulloch attended the "Endeavor Sports High School" and was successful as a middle-distance runner. When she was not accepted into the national team, she looked for a new challenge as a triathlete , discovered her joy in cycling and finally switched to track cycling.
In 2006 Kaarle McCulloch was two-time Australian junior champion in the sprint and 500 m time trial , as well as second in the team sprint and third in the keirin . Since then, she has been able to achieve other national titles and podium places in national championships and world cup races in various short-term disciplines on the track. In 2007 she won the team sprint at the Oceania Championships with Kerrie Meares .
Together with Anna Meares Kaarle McCulloch was at the Track World Championships in 2009 in Pruszkow , at the Track World Championships in 2010 in the Danish Ballerup and in the World Championships in Apeldoorn world champion in the team sprint. At the title fights in Denmark she also set a world record in the team sprint (500 m) over 32.923 s together with Meares. At the Commonwealth Games 2010 she won the gold medal in the team sprint as well as the silver medal in the sprint and time trial. At the beginning of February 2011 she was the Australian champion in the team sprint, together with Cassandra Kell . At the UCI Track World Championships 2012 in Melbourne , she won the silver medal in the team sprint together with Meares. Later that year, the two athletes won the bronze medal in the team sprint together at the Olympic Games in London .
In the following years McCulloch celebrated numerous victories and successes. By 2020 she was 14 times Oceania champion and 18 times national champion. In 2017 , 2018 and 2020 she became vice world champion in the team sprint with Stephanie Morton , and in 2019 the duo won the world title. In 2018 McCulloch won two gold medals at the Commonwealth Games .
