Shanne Madelein Maria Braspennincx (born May 18, 1991 in Turnhout , Belgium ) is a Dutch cyclist who is mainly active on the track .

Athletic career

In 2011 Shanne Braspennincx finished third in the national track championships in the Keirin and Sprint , and the following year also third in the Keirin and 500-meter time trial .

At the UEC European U23 Championships in 2013 in the Velódromo Nacional in Anadia , she won the Keirin title and, together with Elis Ligtlee, the team sprint . In 2013 she became the Dutch Keirin Champion. At the elite European championships she won the silver medal in the team sprint as well as the keirin and was runner-up in the keirin at the 2015 UCI track world championships.

In 2015 Braspennincx suffered a heart attack during a training camp in Colorado and was therefore unable to compete in the European Track Championships . Due to incorrect treatment in the USA, she could have had to give up competitive cycling. In February 2016, the doctors declared that they were “healthy” and that they could continue their competitive cycling. In the same year she was nominated as a substitute driver for the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro , but did not start.

At the UCI Track World Championships 2018 in Apeldoorn , Shanne Braspennincx was runner-up in the team sprint together with Kyra Lamberink , Laurine van Riessen and Hetty van de Wouw . At the 2019 European Games in Minsk , she won two medals: silver in the keirin and with Kyra Lamberink in the team sprint. At the European Championships she took third place with Lamberink in the team sprint.
