Tom Rapp

Thomas Dale "Tom" Rapp (born March 8, 1947 in Bottineau , North Dakota ; † February 11, 2018 in Melbourne , Florida ) was an American singer and songwriter . He became known as the frontman of the folk rock band Pearls Before Swine .

biography

Rapp wrote his first song at the age of six. He appeared in talent competitions; at one he hit the young Bob Dylan . Rapp's family moved to Melbourne , Florida in the early 1960s . Here he founded the band Pearls Before Swine in 1965.

After the first albums, the original band members - except for Rapp - had left the group, and Rapp recorded the other albums with studio musicians. From 1972 he published under his own name. He put together a new version of Pearls Before Swine for appearances.

In the mid-1970s, Rapp withdrew from the music business. He graduated and worked as a lawyer. In 1998 he unexpectedly reappeared on stage: at the Terrastock Festival in Providence , Rhode Island , he accompanied his son Dave's band Shy Camp. He also appeared again at later editions of this festival. In 1999 another Tom Rapp album was released.
