history

Traces indicate a local presence of humans in the Paleolithic and Neolithic , but no significant finds are available. At the time of the Roman occupation, the Roman road from Olissipo ( Lisbon ) to Cale ( Porto ) led here, domestic pottery finds etc. a. attest to a local settlement at the time.

The first official mention of Anadias is documented from 1082 , while some places in today's district were mentioned earlier, such as São Lourenço do Bairro in 883 . In 1514 , King Manuel I created the district of Anadia from various already existing districts and communities and granted it city rights ( Foral ). In the course of the administrative reforms after the Liberal Revolution of 1822 , the Anadia district expanded through numerous incorporations.

Since the end of the 19th century, in addition to the arrival of the Linha do Norte railway line , the rise of the Curia health resort in the district in particular provided growth impulses. In 2004 Anadia was raised from the status of a small town ( Vila ) to a city ( Cidade ).
