Vilarinho do Bairro is a place and a municipality in the central region of Portugal .

history

The excavations of residential houses (at Habitat do Porto da Pipa ) and a Roman thermal bath at the archaeological site of Nossa Senhora dos Banhos date from Roman times .

The current location has been documented by finds since the 9th century and was probably repopulated during the Reconquista . It was officially documented for the first time in a deed of gift to the monastery of Vacariça in 1020, already as the seat of its own small community.

In 1514 the place received its first city rights by D. Manuel and became the seat of a district. Since then, the place has borne the title of a small town ( Vila ).

In the course of the administrative reforms after the Liberal Revolution in 1822 , the Vilarinho do Bairro district was dissolved in 1836 and incorporated into the São Lourenço do Bairro district. Since its dissolution in 1855, Vilarinho do Bairro has been part of the Anadia County.
