Vila Nova de Monsarros is a place and a municipality in the central region of Portugal .
history
With the arrival of the Arab Moors, many people had withdrawn to the surrounding mountainous areas. In the course of the Reconquista they settled back in the recaptured areas. The present municipality belonged to the monastery of Vacariça . A place called Monsarros is mentioned for the first time in 1006.
On December 9, 1514, King D. Manuel gave Monsarros town rights and made it the seat of a separate district. Since then, the place has borne the title of a small town ( Vila ).
In the course of the administrative reforms after the Liberal Revolution in 1822 , the district was dissolved in 1836. Vila Nova de Monsarros has been a parish of the Anadia County since 1837.
