São Lourenço do Bairro is a place and a municipality in the central region of Portugal .

history

Today's place is mentioned for the first time in a deed of donation to the bishop of Santiago de Compostela in 883 and is therefore the oldest documented place in the district.

The place received its first city rights probably in 1255, but it is not clear whether the document of King D. Afonso III. actually means this São Lourenço. King D. Manuel granted the place new city rights on April 5, 1514 and made it the seat of a district. Since then, the place has borne the title of a small town ( Vila ).

In the course of the administrative reforms after the Liberal Revolution in 1822 , the district was expanded in 1836 to include the municipalities and dissolved districts of Vilarinho do Bairro , Sangalhos , Óis do Bairro and Troviscal . In 1853, the government dissolved the county and made it a parish of Anadia County.
