Diaobé-Kabendou is a town in the Vélingara department of the Kolda region , in the south of Senegal . It is a double name indicating the two most important places in the municipality, Diaobé and Kabendou . Diaobé is the main town.

Geographical location

The centers of the districts Diaobé and Kabendou are four kilometers apart in a west-east direction. The city is located in the west of the Vélingara department on the border with the Kolda department in the east of the Casamance and on the southern edge of the Vélingara crater . East of the city, the Niandouba flows south to the Kayanga on its way out of the crater . The Niandouba separates the cities of Diaobé-Kabendou and Kounkané from each other, but they are connected to each other by a combined dam-bridge construction that is around 220 meters long.

The city is located 407 kilometers southeast of Dakar , 85 kilometers east of the regional prefecture of Kolda and 27 kilometers south of Vélingara . Gambia in the north is 33 kilometers away and Guinea-Bissau in the south is 26 kilometers away.

history

The villages of Diaobé and Kabendou were united as an urban community in 2008 and this was defined within its boundaries. These include the twelve villages of Soutouré, Saré Yoba, Ndorna Samba Diao, Saré Mawndé Bothia, Médina Samba Kandé, Maréwé, Sinthiang Diaobé, Dialicounda, Saré Baling, Gambissaré Talata, Sinthiang Aïdara and Kéréwane Bassy. According to the official boundary description, the urban area extends over around 45 km² and extends in the east to the Niandouba River .

Diaobé-Kabendou is a stage on the national road N 6 , which, starting from the city and port city of Ziguinchor , connects the south and east of Casamance via Tambacounda with the rest of the country.

In the middle of Kabendou, a dirt road branches off from the N6 to the south and leads over the border from Guinea-Bissau to Pirada .
