Manuel Rodrigues Lapa
Manuel Rodrigues Lapa (born April 22, 1897 in Anadia ; † March 28, 1989 ibid) was a Portuguese Romanist , Lusitanist , Brazilianist and Galicist .
life and work
Lapa received her doctorate in 1930 (after an eight-month study visit to Paris) at the University of Lisbon with the work Das Origens da Poesia Lírica em Portugal na Idade Média . In 1935 he had to vacate his chair for political reasons and switched to private education and journalism, but remained in research and in 1945 became a corresponding member of the Real Academia Galega in A Coruña . He was arrested in 1949 and only released on bail.
From 1957 he taught at the Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais in Belo Horizonte in Brazil and took up residence there. From 1960 he lived in Rio de Janeiro. In 1962 he returned to Portugal.
After Salazar was overthrown in 1974, his life's work was honored in Portugal. On his 80th birthday in 1977, the Academia das Ciências de Lisboa congratulated him . He received a Festschrift from 1983 to 1984 and the Order of Infante Dom Henrique (Grand Cross) in 1985 , and an honorary doctorate from the University of Aveiro in 1988 . A school in Anadia bears his name.
